What is a Goliath Gantry Crane?

Goliath gantry crane is a kind of gantry crane which has a single or double girder establishment supported by separate legs that move on wheels or rail system or along a track.

Goliath cranes are mostly used in outdoor applications and full type goliath cranes have legs so they are not dependent on the supporting structure of the building. Usually, goliath cranes equip electric hoist, electric crab hoist or electric open winch as lifting mechanism. The lifting mechanism travel along the rails that fixed on the top of main beams, for single beam goliath crane, the hoist is hang under the main beam. The main girders of goliath gantry crane are supported by two or four legs which are connected with lower beams and wheels, so the whole gantry crane system can travel along the crane rails by the end carriages.
